Lee Roy Selmon's story combines the football scholarship of his family and service to his community. Selmon is the youngest of children from Lucious Selmon and Jessie Semon. They took care of him at their farm in Eufala. Second football he was one of three brothers who played for Oklahoma. The three brothers were all All-Americans. In 1973, Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the first-teamers for the entire year. Lee Roy received the Outland & Lombardi Awards for being the most effective lineman in the United States. For three years, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy serving as their starting line-up. The team also took home 2 national titles. Selmon was honored when the National Football Foundation named him an Scholar-Athlete for the 3rd time in 1975. Selmon received a diploma in education. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer hours per week during the college. He moved to Tampa after college, playing for the Buccaneers for nine years and was three-times all-pro. His career in business began. His first job was as a Account Relations Officer with First Florida Bank, Tampa. He has worked previously for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. There's no surprise that the Junior Chamber of Commerce designated Lee Roy as among the top 10 young people in America. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in the height department and weighed 256 lbs as a college player he was captain of the team in 1975. He joined University of South Florida in 1993 as an assistant director of sports. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded its Distinguished American Award Mr. Lucious Sr. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor who made this presentation.
