Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for more than 20 years. She's well-known as a public speaker. She founded Feminist Frequency the site which features video and posts discussing the depictions of females in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian as well as an American feminist media critic. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit educational website which explores the representations of females in the popular media narratives. In her efforts to break down stereotypes that are associated with women in pop media, she is also working to address issues relating to gender-specific harassment of women as well as other classes of people on the internet. Holding a master's degree in the field of political and social thinking from York University Sarkeesian is also well-known as a sought-after speaker and she has delivered speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO Festival as well as the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. From an early age, Sarkeesian was fascinated by the issue of gender identity and feminist thought. When she was still in school, in 2009 she started her Feminist Frequency Website. An ambitious woman who wanted to launch a web-series that would examine the gender representation of video games was targeted in an internet-based campaign. The harassment didn't dissuade her. The experience only strengthened her as a feminist journalist. Her numerous contributions to the feminist field were recognized by a variety of awards. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for several years and founded Feminist Frequency. This non-profit educational organization studies women's roles within the popular culture stories.
