Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck) was an American performer and actress who toured for more than 40 years. A torch singer noted for her gorgeous, sultry contralto vocals, London recorded over thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955 and 1969. Inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001 was her performance of "Cry Me a River" the track she introduced to her debut album. London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award as a actress for her portrayal in Emergency! of Dixie McCall. London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career began as an actress , while she worked as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's career as an actor lasted 35 years. with film in 1944 which included roles for female leads in several westerns. She also starred alongside Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951) as well as Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958), together with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and alongside Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). In the mid-1950s she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional musical career. In 1969 she released her last studio album. However, she continued to be an actor on the Emergency show in the role of Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979) The show was joined by her husband Bobby Troup. The show was created by her ex-husband Jack Webb.
